Artist’s Statement for CENTRAL COAST ICONOGRAPHERS—
For over 20 years, Deacon Clark Rutledge and his wife, Susan have painted Russian/Byzantine style religious icons. St. Timothy’s church in Morro Bay has been gracious to let them hold classes in this ancient technique. For the past 4 years, Deb Festa, Bonnie Thomas, Mary Romero, Ruth Vasconcellos, Michele Smith, Richard Killeen, Mary ann Statler, Carolyn Moceri, Joyce Smith and Carmen Fojo paint every Friday at St. Tim’s. The group uses hardwood boards, acrylic mediums and 24 karat gold leaf. Keeping this old tradition alive is very exciting. The group will featured as guest artists at Marina Square Gallery the month of October.
